Arevashogh, formerly known as Chigdamal, is situated 1 km northeast of Spitak and 20 km from Vanadzor. The village is nestled in a valley by the Pambak River which is 1,730 m above sea level. The climate of this mountainous environment is temperate with cold winters and warm, relatively humid summers. The ancestors of the people of Arevashogh migrated from Salmast and Maku in the Khoy province of Iran. Within the boundaries of the village, close to the borders of Hamamlu, there are traces of ruins, which prove that it has been a settlement since ancient times.
